Evolutionary process in the development of human beings has made Wisdom teeth redundant or vestigial. Just like an appendix, wisdom teeth are also extracted if they pose a problem. Typically, a wisdom tooth erupts between the age group of 17-21 years, however in some individuals they may not erupt properly and cause damage to the adjacent tooth. Hence extractions of these wisdom teeth which do not erupt properly are recommended.
